The following information and guidelines will help ensure that your BETTER LIFE products remain stable, healthy, high performance products for the duration of use and shelf life. These guidelines refer to the following products:

  • Bulk product- 5 gallon pails
  • Refill stations- 5 gallon cubes with dispensing nozzle used to refill individual bottles of product
  • Product Concentrates

All BETTER LIFE products are made with the highest quality ingredients and raw materials from natural and plant based sources. They are solvent-free, water based products and do not contain solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOC’s). Because they are water based, they require a preservative system to keep them safe and free of contamination for up to three years. This preservative system keeps bacteria, yeasts and molds from growing in, or contaminating the product before it is used. However, they do not protect against contamination from outside sources. In other words, if you open a bottle and put a dirty finger in it, the preservative system can no longer do its job properly and leaves the product susceptible to contamination. Below is information, tips and guidelines which will help you get the most out of our products.

The world around us is covered with microorganisms which include bacteria, mold, and yeasts. These microorganisms cover our skin and hands, the surfaces in our home, our clothes, and are even carried on dust particles in the air. Many of these microorganisms are harmless and in fact, are necessary for us to remain healthy. However, they can also become a nuisance and hazard in certain situations or grow rampant in places where they do not belong (like in a BETTER LIFE product, a jar of mayonnaise, or your toothpaste). Keeping this in mind, we must take care not to expose the BETTER LIFE products to sources of outside contamination that might cause the product to become spoiled.

BULK PRODUCT

  • Store product in a cool dry place.
  • Be sure to keep the container closed tightly at all times.
  • Before opening the drum or pail, use a clean damp cloth to wipe the drum opening and area around the cap before opening the drum. If it is very dirty, you can use alcohol (isopropyl, 99%) to clean and sanitize the area. These steps will prevent dirt/dust from getting into the drum of product.
  • Anything used to dispense the product from the container (nozzles, pumps, tubing, etc.) must be completely clean and sanitized. If you would not eat off the surface then you should never put it in contact with the product.
  • We recommend that you DO NOT dilute “ready to use” product with water. However, if you choose to do this, you must use the diluted product all at one time.
  • Never pour product (or anything else) back into the bulk product container.
  • Only fill bulk product into clean and sanitized containers and packaging.

REFILL STATIONS

  • Store product in a cool dry place.
  • Be sure to keep the container closed tightly at all times.
  • When opening a 5 gallon cube to insert nozzle, make sure that the center of the cap is clean and that you use a clean and sanitized tool to “punch out” the middle of the cap. You may use alcohol (isopropyl, 99%) to wipe the center of the cap clean and to clean/sanitize the tool. If you are reusing a nozzle, soak it in alcohol (isopropyl, 99%) for 2 minutes or put it in boiling water for 10-15 seconds to ensure it is clean and sanitized.
  • Only fill bulk product into clean and sanitized containers and packaging. If you are unsure of the cleanliness of the container being refilled, you can rinse with boiling hot water or with a small amount of alcohol (isopropyl, 99%).
  • Only vent the container using the vent plug at the top of the cube. Remove the cap, cut open the plug and replace the cap leaving it loose so that air can vent.
  • We recommend that you DO NOT dilute “ready to use” product with water. However, if you choose to do this, you must use the diluted product all at one time.

CONCENTRATES

  • Store product in a cool dry place.
  • Be sure to keep the container closed tightly at all times.
  • If you are using to refill a 5 gallon cube, dispense the entire gallon of concentrate into a clean and sanitized cube. You can clean and sanitize a cube by rinsing with boiling water, or rinsing with hot water, followed by and alcohol rinse (isopropyl, 99%).
  • Follow dilution guide. Do not dilute the product with more water than what the directions call for.
  • Do not dispense/dilute concentrate in a container that is not clean and sanitized.
  • Never add anything to the container of concentrate.
  • Use a good quality water source. DO NOT use water from a garden hose, stagnant water or any other poor quality water. If you would not drink it, never use it for dilution of the concentrates.

Common causes of contamination

  • Product contact with unclean surfaces
    • Touching and handling containers, funnels, caps, spray tops, spouts and nozzles, etc. that will come into direct contact with the product with your hands, brush up against clothing, coming in contact with non-sterile or unclean surfaces.
    • Taking a spray top out of the bottle and letting the tube touch non-sterile/unclean surfaces and then reusing them or putting them back into contact with product. This includes nozzles, spouts, funnels, caps and any other item that comes into direct contact with product.
    • o Placing ANY foreign object into the product- especially if it is not clean/sterile.
  • Air Exposure
    • Leaving bottles, cubes, gallon jugs or any other container open to the air for extended periods of time.
    • Do not let an empty container (5 gallon cube or a product bottle) sit empty for long periods and then refill it. Also, never let these containers sit open to the air without caps These empty containers can have “stagnant” liquid in the bottom of it from sitting empty and cause contamination when refilled.
    • “Venting” the 5 gallon cube in such a way that it is open to air contamination, i.e. cutting a hole into the top of the cube that would allow dust and debris to fall into the product. If you vent the container - use the venting plug build into the cube and keep the cap in place (but loose to allow air to vent).
  • Poor Water Quality
    • Using an unclean water source to dilute the concentrates. If you would not drink the water from the source you are using then DO NOT use it to dilute a concentrate!
    • Do not use a hose to dilute a concentrate. Do not allow the tip of the sink faucet to touch the product or inside of the container.
  • Unapproved Containers and packaging
    • Do not use other containers or packaging components when refilling BETTER LIFE products. This could contaminate the product and the components may not be clean/sterile.
