Mindful Gift Giving This Holiday Season

Mindful Gift Giving This Holiday Season

The Holiday Season is upon us again. Does it seem like every year it gets harder and harder to figure out what to get everyone? Better Life has composed a list of holiday gift ideas that are not only good for your soul, but also for the environment.

Recycled Personalized Holiday Cards

If you have a knack for creating things, this is an easy one. Look through your old scraps of paper and art supplies, and customize holiday cards for those you love. A homemade card adds a personal touch to gift giving and really brings out the thoughtfulness of the season.

If you don't have extra crafting supply on hand or simply are not into crafting, Cards for Causes is an excellent resource. They donate 20% of your purchase to the charity of your choice and offer eco-friendly cards made out of recycled materials.

The Gift of Classes or Lessons

Material items wear, tear and break over time, but memories last forever. Giving a cooking class, dance lessons, or a painting class, can help bring out the creative side of your loved one and can turn into a tradition that's fun for the whole family! Consider giving an educational experience that helps keep the mind sharp and memories alive.

Give the Present of Presence

Sometimes, we get so caught up in the shopping, meal prepping, end of year work projects, that we forget what this season is all about; spending time with those we love. Plan a get together with your loved ones to watch your favorite holiday movies, enjoy nature or go on a hike, call up grandma and grandpa and offer to help them decorate, volunteer at a local organization as a family, or just schedule a time to chat over FaceTime or Skype with your friends and family who may not live close.

Give to Yourself

Many times, the business of the holiday season takes away from the time we have to care for ourselves. Don't forget how important it is to make sure you are also taken care of:

  • Get enough rest - don't lose sleep over the stress of holiday shopping
  • Fit in time to excercise
  • Plan ahead for meals so you don't over indulge in holiday treats
  • Treat yourself to a massage, yoga class or daily meditation practice

We hope you have an enjoyful, peaceful and memorable, holiday season.
